Mel Torme is a fine example of this; he was able to sing a classical style of vocal production with ease and demonstrated it frequently in his scat singing. >>
lloyd,
i have never heard mel torme sing in a classical style vocal production. i would say that there is less 'fog' in his scat singing and i would attribute the near absence of the 'fog' to the tendency for staccato (ish) singing to reduce breathiness.
