I think I recall reading somewhere that Jennens was a pretty disreputable individual, so much so that there was much doubt as to whether he could have written the libretto. There are even rumors that he took credit for someone else's work. Doesn't sound like anybody that Handel would actually be friends with...maybe more like an acquaintance?
