Sorry I haven't written for a while- but I've had a bit of a breakthrough.
I made my first public classical 'debut' yesterday, at a close friend's
wedding ceremony. I know that doesn't sound very exciting, but I've only
ever sung with my rock band in public, and to sing with my operatic voice
was a really big step for me. I was incredibly apprehensive and nervous
about doing it, but I'm soglad I did it.
Anyway, I sang con te partiro and bach's ave maria. It went so wonderfully,
I couldn't believe it. Everyone was raving and was so congratulatory-
especially the string quartet I sang with. My friends were shocked! They
did not expect an operatic sound, as they had only ever heard me sing rock
music. And I hadn't even sung in front of my partner before- she was also
shocked! It made me realise how valuable it is to share what you have with
other people. I had spent so much time practising along with my cd
accompaniments that I had forgotten how amazing the feeling of perfoming
(with real musicians) is.
I feel much more confident now, and want to get out there, and audition for
the opera chorus. The string quartet asked for my number and have said they
would love to do more work with me. You know, I never had this sort of
reaction from people before- when I sang in my band, some people would come
up and say complimentary things like 'yeah, that was cool', but yesterday,
EVERYONE came up and tried to convey what they heard and felt. It was an
amazing feeling.
