Subject:  vocal shake

Hi, Mirko here again

I posted recently about trying to get rid of my vocal shake (or trying to
work with it and *let* it dissapear).

I've started practising my arias at about a really slow tempo. I sing each
note fully, and wait for the natural ring to appear, however long it takes
(usually about a second). My teacher has given me Mozart's dalla sua pace
to learn (as well as Il mio tesoro, and Donzinetti's una furtiva lagrima-
what a beautiful piece!) So, with the mozart piece, I start by 1. creating
space in the throat, 2. supporting the breath, by maintaining expansion in
the space below the ribs and above the pelvic area, and 3. singing each and
every note very slowly (and at a full volume- which is very loud for me).
It seems to be working really well. I'll keep doing them really slowly for
a couple of weeks, and see what happens.
I'm also doing the tenor intro to the Messiah- comfort ye my people, which
is fantastic for sustained notes.
What do the listers think? After doing this for a while, will this process
speed up?
Does this seem like a good plan?

Gosh, this singing stuff is so tricky. One day it's easy, next day it seems
impossible.
but as my teacher says- singing is easy when you're doing it right, but
really difficult when you're doing something wrong.

Mirko (tenor)
