My problem with the comparison is that the two actions (singing a major operatic role vs. running a marathon) require very different actions. I can play the Old Lady in "Candide," flamenco dancing and all, five performances a week, no problem. I can (and have) biked twenty miles in a day. But if I attempted a marathon, my knees would give out after less than a mile.
Incidentally, my upcoming run in "Hansel and Gretel" will involve school shows (3 a day for three days running) with a call at EIGHT *%$^$IN' A.M.! Take that, Janet!
