I do it by language. It seem to be the easiest. I have a 4-drawer legal-size
filing cabinet. I keep the sacred stuff in one drawer with the opera orch.
scores & parts, and my voice music in another.
The opera scores go in a bookcase, alphabetically by composer. (Which gets
tricky sometimes, as I have a tendency to forget who wrote what!!!)
I also have large pocket files which hold things like ongoing chamber music,
duets, opera excerpts, etc., etc. Those are also in the bookcase.
Good luck! Just pick something and go for it. Think about how YOU would look
for something, like in a library.
