Dear Milena and co-vocalisters,
Funny to write to someone named Milena, because my daughter’s name is the same.
Anyway: all the music I use or plan to use, I scan and then save on my harddisk in an order called music, with suborders like Schubert/Schwanengesang, Verdi/La Traviata etc.
For me this works great: I never have to be afraid I won’t be able to find a certain score, and can print an extra copy at any given moment. Before a concert I always print extra copies just in case the pianist forgets her music (she never does) or in case someone might happen, like someone spilling water on the score, or the wind catching it, or whatever Mr. Murphy might have on his mind. Admittedly there are a few extra copies in my cupboard now, and for environment-fundamentalists this might sound like a sin, but at least I never have to search longer then 2 minutes for a score, because after two minutes I decide to print a new copy (it’s only a few cents and does not take long). A scanner is nowadays cheap as well, and with Photoshop or similar programs, you can even shrink pages to make them useable for pianist if the pieces are many pages long and fast.
Of course I could make the same kind of alphabetical composer/work ordering in my cupboard, but there it is somehow more difficult to keep it in order, as most of you will have experienced.
Best wishes,
Dré
