Jocelyn, opera in four acts, Op. 100, first performance in Brussels at the Théâtre de la Monnaie on Feb 25, 1888. Libretto by Paul Armand Silvestre and Victor Capoul (French tenor who also sang in the opera's premiere) after a poem by Alphonse de Lamartine. Jocelyn is a seminarian tempted by earthly love. According to the Oxford Dictionary of Music, only this Berceuse survives from Godard's eight operas.
An overview of Lamartine's poem is available at: http://romantis.citeweb.net/Lamartine/html/jocelyn.html
An extract from the poem is available at: http://poesie.webnet.fr/poemes/France/lamartin/65.html
Best of luck. -Steven.

Dear Vocalistmates,
Sorry for re-posting my earlier note. There wasn't a response when I first posted it. If anyone knows ANYthing about this piece, I'd appreciate your help! Karen? Thanks, again. GW-, dT
