I have a new student, 35, sings second tenor in choir. I have never taught a male before, and I am a mezzo. When he gets past an F# above middle C, he flips into a kind of head voice and says he can't go on. How do I get him past this without asking him to force anything? Are there any resources that have a good explanation about the sensation during this register change? I know that men have a chest voice and a head voice, and the goal is to achieve a mix on top, but how do I address this?
