do it, a big must is Shirley Bassey, Tom Jones, and

ian,

the only problem i have with shirley bassey and englebert and another
huge favorite of mine, tony bennett, is that i tend to get caught up so much
in the emotion of the music ('easy listening' being my favorite stuff and, i
do include scott walker in that) that i can vary as much as 30mph inside five
minutes. and, if i get all choked up over a song, i tend to swerve all over
the road. it does meet the requirement of keeping me awake, though.

good idea about some of the older musicals. 'oklahoma' and 'gigi' make
good driving companions.

another suggestion, if dozing off is not a problem is baaba maal. time
goes by without notice when driving to his stuff. djavan is also good in
the same way and is generally really cheerful music.
