from a practical standpoint, if you already know how to teach yourself your music, including rhythm, pitches, language etc., you would be wasting your own time with your teacher if you wait for her to teach you these things. what you need from your teacher is to find out how to do the things you don't already know how to do. if this requires you to prepare your music in advance, it just makes sense that you should. even if you prepare something incorrectly (as an earnest mistake), you'll be better able to make a correction having the frame of reference preperation gives you.
