several methods, being two of them the more used. I use the "down and
out" one. Sorry if my English is not very good when I try to describe
it. I take a breath thinking on sending the air down (near my pelvis)
and also on expanding my lungs to both sides (specially if the phrase
is long). Then I "block" the air pushing down and out with my abdomen
muscles. Finally I sing "spending" the air I have stored there.

Rachel has also suggested may be because of jaw tension and I agree
with her. I have this problem when I have to sing at an exam for the
Conservatory. I am a perfectionist but the jury is more than me. For
an unknown reason the president of the jury (it has three members) is
not a singing teacher but a solfege teacher who doesn't know a word
about singing, as I could notice in a conversation with him. The
moment a note is slightly out of pitch this man takes note and I fail
again. He says he doesn't look for good voice or good singing, but
for a perfect intonation. The other two members are: a singing
teacher and a piano accompanist teacher. I know it's me who
sings "bad" and has to correct it but... sometimes I can't help
thinking these things only happen in Spain: a non specialist can be
member of a jury.

Well, let's try to improve!

Rut
