Molly:

I'll just add that the judges might have ulterior motives behind their
choices. I was charming (still am!), well-prepared, am also an actress, sang
music I loved which was well-suited to my voice, "The Jewel Song", and won
our concerto competition despite competing against older singers with more
developed voices and technique who went on to have operatic careers. The
voice faculty were livid and challenged the decision. The panel (no singers)
stood firm and refused to justify their decision. But I later learned that I
had simply sung very well a piece the conductor had always wanted to do. He
did not like the orchestration for the arias the "Diva" and the "Baritone"
had chosen.

No matter what Molly - choose something you love and can sing the pants off.

Break a leg,

Laura Sharp

'marriage of figaro', i dreamt i was in a production but, everyone was going
to sing it in italian (i had sung it in english). i hadn't learned the
italian and suggested i could just 'wing it'. it did not work very well.
