Subject:  Re: [vocalist] how to GET paying gigs!

Hello. This thread sort of come off of the thread on unpaid gigs.

I was very interested to read the different responses in this discussion.
Obviously, we'd all rather have paying gigs, since the majority of us have
to eat somehow. :) - yet a lot of folk admit that the non-paying gigs have
led to paying ones, and in my experience, I have to agree with this. So
some of us agree that a non-paying thing now and again is fine, especially
if the music is good and we like the people running the show. That's all
cool...

So here's my question/new thread topic!:

Just HOW does one GET the paying gigs? How does one make new contacts?
Obviously, word-of-mouth is the biggest way of getting a job in my
experience - someone saying they heard me here, or heard of me, or what not.
There are also auditions. However, many gigs DON'T set up an actual
audition. In this case, how does one make contact with said
conductor/director/concert organiser???

I always enjoy hearing other people's experiences and opinions, and thought
this might make a good thread. So, please respond!

(I have another thread idea (I'm full of thoughts tonight), but I think I'll
start a new post....!)
