1 st and 2 nd tenor are choral singer classifications while the Fach system
classifies solo voices.
1 st and 2 nd do tend to indicate range, as one can sing the high notes well
and the other can't sing high as well. many times these classifications hove
something to do with who reads music well.
I think fach also indicates roles that you should be able to sing, or to
put it another way, while one might sound like a dramatic tenor it is as
important to be able sing a whole night of
dramatic rep. And do the same night after night. Otherwise, what is the
point of calling yourself a dramatic tenor just because you can sound like
one ?
