Excellent point, Karen! I know I've done this. I was
at an audition last year for the "King and I". The
director was mean and nasty to everyone from the get
go and I wasn't thrilled about the prospects of
working with him. When he had me sing "We Kiss in the
Shadows", I was awful. I walked out of the audition
and into the street and sang it beautifully. True,
there was no pressue to sing to myself in the street,
but when I thought about it later, I really think my
subconscious stepped in and sabotaged me and ruined my
chances of getting into a show I would have been
miserable in.
