Good guess!

Beatlesongs says that it "was conceived as a sort of show tune that
he imagined might be useful at a later point. He put lyrics to it
years later in honor of his father's sixty-fourth birthday."

I'd say that the writing of the tune was a creative act by a budding
musical genius (which would not preclude his being grounded and
sucking up).
