molly,
i don't know how your piano skills are but, if they are fairly lame,
just sit down and play through songbooks. see if you can keep going without
stopping and, if you can only play part of what's there (like just the right
hand), that's fine. eventually, you will probably do some teaching. if
you can hack through a song, you will be more valuable to your students.
also, it will make your learning of music more complete on its own.
