Subject:  Gotta love it when you're sick! (not!)

I've been sick for a week with a bug (throat)that started with
my sinuses congested and continuos sneezing (gotta love it, I am
immune to the pollen walls of North Carolina, but when I come back
HOME to ecuador, I get sick)--- in this state, i had to sing, a week
ago (friday), at my cousin's wedding. LOTS of coat throat tea and
honey solution, plus water 24 hours a day, rest and other cares kept
my condition from getting worse and I took great care in not
straining my instrument (I wish I could have turned back, but it was
sort of like a Do-or-this-side-of-the-family-will-never-speak-to-you-
again..yeah, my father's family's a jewel)....

After singing the Bach-Gounod Ave Maria and the rest of the
rep. , they dragged me off to the reception and although I insisted
that I was tired and wanted to leave, they kept me there (i have no
transportation and the reception was in a country club away from the
city) until one of my aunts decided to head home---at 5AM in tthe
morning! That and the unavoidable smoky ambient (all of that side of
the family smoke like chimmeneys) made my wake up the next day worse--
- the bug that i had carefully controlled started to manifest itself
(i was feeling exhaustted and not well-rested, so I guess my body
just couldn't deal with it anymore). The doctor checked me and said
that yes, the infection had advanced but it was nothing medicine and
rest wouldn't cure. So I haven't sang anything at all for a week (and
can't until monday again), he even forbade the gym and any strenuous
activities. ACK. What drives me nuts is that I wanted to look over
some possible repertoire for the next semester and everything, but
i've been taking it easy---if not by my own initiative :p I don't
have a sore throat, but my voice gets tired quickly if i sing a bit,
and there's some concentration at the back of my throat----
I've been hydrating myself a lot, but what bugs me is, does the
Honey/Lemon mixture thing really work or is it another one of the
thins you're told to use which really doesn't have any effect?

I hope I can sing next week, but I'm not pushing it... I'll
probably be extra careful and not sing at all until halfway through
next week. Qhat always bugs me with being sick is the way you have to
work hard on getting your voice back on track :P Ack!

sorry, Rant's over :OP for now

Paul, the sick tenor
P.S. Sorry for the rant, sometimes it's good to vent to people that
know what you're talking about ;)
