Molly, I attended FSU for both masters and doctoral work. It is a fine
school, regularly placing students in the Merola Program at San Francisco
Opera, the Houston Opera Studio, The Santa Fe Opera Program, and the
fellowship programs at Tanglewood (both undergraduates and graduates.)
Students from FSU are on the roster at the Met, and many are working in
Europe in the German and Austrian houses. U.S. News and World Report
places it in the top five vocal schools in the US (a report based on the
opinions of professionals working in the field of opera). There are a
number of first rate teachers there, including Yvonne Ciannella, Claritha
Buggs, Jerrold Pope (my teacher), and Roy Delp, president of NATS. Doug
Fisher, a protege of Martin Katz, is head of the opera department, along
with stage director Michael McConnell. The program is extremely
competitive. I would be happy to talk with you at length if you like.
