This can be tricky. I jsut sang the title role in Elijah (for the 7th
time) and this is, in my opinion, the most "operatic" of the
oratorios. I do not gesture (though I've thought about it) but I do
try to indicate somewhat to whom I am speaking (the child, Ahab, etc.)
I have been told that William Warfield would actually turn and
address the choir during the "Baal sequence." I'm sure this was
pretty shocking the first time!
