the ability to sight read is a by-product of understanding what is
written on the page. in classical music, where the source of the music is
that which has been communicated on the page, with all its flaws,
understanding to the best of one's abilities what those symbols means is
essential. or, one must have the ability, if learning music off the
recording, to seperate that which is the music from that which is the
performance.
