No doubt because some smartass in the audience who lives, sleeps, and breathes that particular opera will make a big issue of the fact that she transposed it. For some reason, modern operatic convention states that it was fine for singers in Caruso's day to transpose all over the place, but it's considered a demonstration of musical, vocal, or ethical weakness for singers to do the same today.
