I've also heard that bananas and milk calm stage
fright (probably for the same reason that bananas,
milk, and turkey make you feel sleepy -- tryptophan?
something that sounds like that).

I've also heard that spicy foods are natural
expectorants -- "clearing out mucous" is what an
expectorant like humibid does, which is to make the
mucous thinner and more liquid (less viscous) so it
becomes a pleasant lubrication rather than a gunky
mess. Gina, have you ever taken humibid?

Lemon-water is supposed to cut through gunky mucous,
although I find that it dries me out too much.

I have a friend who swears by popping some chocolate
into her mouth before she sings -- she suffers from
dry throat, and she needs the extra mucous it brings
on.

The ancient Romans believed that leeks made the voice
richer and stronger.
