Hello John -My funny subject reply ;-)
I completely agree with your
philosophy of "shoulds" / "can do's" and
the one "absolutly never". But I must tell you
how astonished I was during rehearsals
with Justino Diaz; he smoked at EVERY
break (only in his dressing room.... thank God).
I was doing a small comprimario role and he
complimented my singing so we later went
to his dressing room to chat and out came the
cigarettes. I had to excuse myself as I'm quite
allergic to cigarette smoke.
I could'nt believe that voice came out of him
after a dozen cigarettes. The air alone in Los
Angeles is enough to make you crazy without
adding cigarettes to ones environment. It seems
some people just have "steel" vocal apparatus
although I'm quite positive the
smoking most likely has caught up with him
and manifest itself in some way ......but who
knows. It would certainly be interesting to
know if he had any cancer or other disease
in the upper respiratory system later in life.
Sincerely,
Nancy Fontana
