I don't have any words of wisdom directly about the allergies or asthma,
but I have experienced stage fright at times, and it usually has to do with
a feeling of not being "good enough" in some way. In high school I would
actually catch cold before every performance -- I now realize that there
was a correlation between the physical symptoms and the worry about not
singing well enough to live up to the audience's standards. By making
myself sick, I was giving myself an excuse against how (I feared) other
people were going to judge me. The reality, of course, is that nobody ever
accused me of not singing well enough; that was all in my head.

You might try, Clarissa, to ask yourself *why* you desperately want to do
opera, and try to focus on that in your practice and performance. Also ask
yourself if it's *possible* (and I don't mean this to sound like an
accusation or a judgment against you, just something you can think about if
it helps) that the medical symptoms are your body's way of asking you to
examine your relationship with your singing. These are hard questions to
think about, but by sitting with them awhile you might learn something that
will help you feel less ill AND embrace your performance more easily.

Good luck! Ask questions if you want, privately or on-list.
