Some tidbits about different forms of exercise I've picked up:
Swimming is a good 'whole-body' exercise, good for heart and lungs, but there is also some evidence that a lot of swimming in cool water leads to increased subcutaneous fat increase. The degree of clorination; the temperature and your own current state of fatigue are all factors in what kind of infection or irritation you might experience. If you don't exercise enough to break sweat you're not going to burn a lot of fat. Maybe the trick is to find a way of having the sweat evaporate or be absorbed quickly - either by wearing loose-fitting clothing in a nicely ventilated circumstance or by wearing the kind of sporty clothing that draws the moisture away from the surface of your body. If it is the odour of sweat that is a problem - after a lifestyle of regular vigourous exercise sweat doesn't have as much salt or other items in it, and isn't as smelly or dirty - but you have to go through it to get to this lovely state! john turning into an exercise-nazi!
