I've heard people advise singers to "activate" them,
or to pull the cheeks up in a smile position, or to
feel them get rosy or in other ways do something,
mental or physical, with the cheeks. Doesn't work for
me. It turns the tone screechy.

I think a lot of what facial and vowel adjustments all
singers make has a lot to do with your natural bone
structure (of the face). I've noticed that singers
with large round faces and huge, big-boned jaws and
cheekbones do things differently than I do. The
natural structure of your face has to be taken into
account, since one singer's screech might be another's
big beautiful squillo and a third's muffled woof.
