Other opera singers who also excel(led) at art song:

Victoria de los Angeles
Janet Baker
Gerard Souzay
Regine Crespin
Barbara Bonney
Christa Ludwig
Lucia Popp
Feodor Chaliapin
Thomas Allen
Thomas Hampson
Dmitri Hvorostovsky
Lotte Lehmann
Anne Sofie von Otter
Jose van Dam
Dawn Upshaw
Arleen Auger
Elisabeth Schumann
Alexander Kipnis
Boris Christoff
Sarah Walker
Robert Tear
Elisabeth Schwarzkopf
Angelika Kirschlager

Then there are many singers who are/were temperamentally "wrong" for art
song - or, indeed, for anything but opera (and perhaps operetta or
zarzuela and the occasional big symphonic work like Verdi's Requiem or
Beethoven's 9th), and who, for the most part, realise(d) this. Similarly,
there are/were singers who never ventured into the opera house, but stuck
almost exclusively to the recital hall (or recital hall and concert hall,
singing symphonic song cycles and oratorio solos in the latter). Jan
DeGaetani, Elly Ameling, Heinrich Schlusnus, Gervase Elwes - all names
that come to mind as being exclusively non-operatic.

-----
We're sitting in the opera house;
We're waiting for the curtain to arise
With wonders for our eyes,
A feeling of expectancy,
A certain kind of ecstasy,
Expectancy and ecstasy....Sh's's's.

- Charles Ives
