Subject:  Re: [vocalist] a tenor who is grumpy with mozart

there are two kinds of composers to consider in this discussion; those
who are practical and those who are not. those who are practical compose
music they know can be sung, those who are not compose music they hope can be
sung.

to say that bach and mozart did not understand the voice is a joke.
their vocal works have been performed and recorded over and over again and
are held by some as the standard that all classical singers should aspire to.
did they write difficult music? quite often. is it singable? by quite
a number of people.

i, personally, don't think everyone has to sing this stuff. there is
plenty of music out there to be sung. nor do i think that every singer has
to posess every singing skill imaginable to be a good or even a great singer.

i imagine the main reason mozart tenor roles are sung by light voices is
that the heftier voices prefer the flashier more glamorous roles that the
light voices don't get cast in.
