ives was apparently very concerned with 'manly' music. he found bach, beethoven and brahms to be manly composers. he said mozart, debussy and ravel wrote sissy music. he said of chopin, "i could never listen to chopin without picturing him wearing a dress but, it's alright because, at least, it was a dress he made himself". what a fruitcake!
