don't ask me why but, this reminds me of a line in a michael steinberg
review of a performance of the beethoven 9th sym. at tanglewood in the late
70s. there was a tremendous thunderstorm during the performance (the
transmitter had supposedly been struck by lightning during the broadcast).
steinberg reported that "it was like hearing beethoven played in a urinal".
