My most memorable wedding as a singer was when the daughter of one of the pillars of our Methodist church married. This man (the father) had been sooo complimentary to me over the 7 years I was the soloist there. He was always saying how he wished he could choose my solos, or that he listened to the Met broadcast and wanted to hear me sing a certain aria. So when he asked me to sing for her wedding I thought, "Finally!, I'll get to sing something decent for a wedding here!"
My hopes were dashed when the bride called with my list of songs:
Evergreen Somewhere Over the Rainbow and All I ask of You (from Phantom - Yes, it's a duet and I sang both parts!)
Oh well...they were all happy, the bride sobbed and her father was very grateful. I have never had artistic control of a wedding since my own, where my beloved mother-in-law was pleased (not to mention more than able) to sing anything my husband and I asked.

I still recoil in horror at the time I sang Celine Dion's "The Power of Love" at a Catholic wedding ... "the whispers in the morning of lovers sleeping tight ..." "Cuz I'm your lady and you are my man - whenever you reach for me - I'll do all that I can." Too Much Information!!!
