I have had some choir students who are also cheerleaders. They
can be lectured (notice I say lectured.....not many will listen) on a
more "correct" way of using their voices in cheering. I had one that
was very committed vocally and did chants and cheers in a more
"appropriate" vocal way. She was more concerned with her vocal
talent than the others I have had and knew she would be going to
college as a voice major and not a cheerleader.

It's a tough choice for some of these young people because they want to enjoy their high school activities. And, even if they try to be careful, it's hard not to abuse the voice in these venues.
