as an organist myself, i think it is a GREAT idea. why are you not keen on it? the organ is the closest you can get to an orchestra with just one person. organ music should be heard more by non-organists, and this might be a good way to introduce people to it. organ is often used to accompany singers in a church setting. in other settings, often organists play transcriptions of orchestral works, why not opera?
