It really depends on the repertoire. The only time I've ever worn a tux in a recital was when I was doing a program of songs by Sondheim, Bolcom and Weill. It worked well in that context. If I'm doing something truly classical, I wear a dress. Which reminds me - I haven't come up with anything new for a recital in February. I'd better get on it!
