Hello list,
I simply cannot resist replying to this one, as I once believed this sort of
thing only happened to me.
Many, many years ago when I actually studied voice, I used to experience the
most wonderful vocalises, up to a high A(I was a bass-baritone) after a night
of heavy drinking. My teacher at the time, Hunter Moore(of
Portland,OR-unfortunately I think he has retired!) while chastizing me for my
bad behavior, explained that this occurred because the body and mind were so
worn out, that I simply couldn't maintain any physical tension and therefore
was singing more freely than usual.
This is most definitely NOT a recommended technique. One has a tendency to do
things like forgetting lyrics and phrasing if one drinks too heavily for long.
I don't want to really discuss smoking. It took everything I had to beat that
nasty habit....
Happy holidays , all...and lay off the eggnog!
