The first time I saw her it was very pronounced, more recently it seems
better but still there. Could this be one way in which her voice has been
"artificially matured"? >>
When I was in high school...about age 15...I admired a certain singer who went to another school and who was a competition winner, etc. She had a gorgeous soprano voice, very "mature" (that impressed me then) and her chin "wiggled" when she sang. So I imitated her. I made MY chin wiggle. I continued it until age 17 when I had a wobble so bad that a truck could drive through it! I managed to get a voice scholarship anyway (guess they could tell there was still a good instrument in there) and got some good training and was able to "lose" the wobble and the chin tension.
My point is: I MADE it do that. I wanted to sound older. I did not have anyone telling me it was a bad thing. Thank goodness I found help before I couldn't change it. I do not have a problem with this anymore, and haven't since about age 19. I am now 50, and am proud of my "youthful" instrument!
We all learn certain things by imitation. Here's to imitating the correct things!!!
