Hi, Andrew. I'm not a smoker myself, but I do know a bit about what you're saying. My mother smokes pretty much constantly(which is another issue in itself)and when I'm at home I'm forced to breathe in the second-hand smoke unless I want to spend every day outside. I have bad reflux when I'm not around cigarettes but I've noticed that when I first start breathing the smoke in, it almost feels like it's doing something good to my vocal cords. They don't seem as gunky, but after an hour or so, I develop either a runny nose or a coughing fit or both. You're instincts are right; even though it seems to work for your benefit, you're only complicating your vocal problems. I promise that after enough time away from cigarettes(and maybe some allergy medicine)your vocal problems will start to go away. Don't give up on yourself or your voice. Go forth and conquer!:)
