Hellow, listers. If any of you remember me, I've been lurking for many months now. (Husband doing quite well, but still paralyzed vocal cord and no swallowing, etc.)
Anyway, after auditioning for our Opera Workshop Spring production a few weeks ago, I got a call from the director telling me not to be surprised when I don't see my name on the board for the production. (Huh, whuH? I've gotten excellent parts and leads till now)I didn't fit any of the roles in "Three Penny Opera" (44, mature voice, lyric sop, not at all "willowy") He announced to me that he would be choosing a one woman opera for me to do, with all other participants doing the other opera! I was excited, fearful and honored. He had not yet chosen the production, and I'm really curious about what it might be. He said he and the coach/accomp were looking into it, and considering one by Poulenc, as well as others.
Does anyone have a clue as to what it might be, or what choices are out there? I had only heard of "Erwartung" and am assured that it will not be considered. I am so terribly curious, with at least two weeks yet to go before we resume classes. The director says he wants it to help me become a stronger singer/memorizer, etc.
EEEK! The honor, the privilege, the fear, the delicious performance possibilities!
Any ideas?
Jocelyn Thulin, soprano
