That "hook", in my NSHO, has sent many a boy hurtling into the spotlight for a short and brillant career.

If your upper notes are not all that you want them to be, the examination must entail what you are doing below the area you want to access. I might suggest, however hollow my diagnosis may be without hearing you, that you are mixing chest too high, or at least not in the best proportion for you.

I once "hooked", listening and imitating Mr. Milnes; Then I started wobbling on g above middle c at 22 years of age. I beg you to examine the middle voice, if the upper doesn't perform to your expectations.

Ok! This is my first question!
I'm a twenty-five year old baritone and I've been struggling with my upper
register from about D4 up. Apparently, according to a friend of mine who is
an older and much more mature singer than I, there is a way to sort of yawn
up and hook into the high notes leading possibly to an A4, B4, or even C5
for a high baritone. He claims this "hook" is evident in recordings of a
famous singer by the name of Sherrill Milnes (did I spell that right?) who I
have never heard. #1 the only way I can even sing these notes is to switch
into falsetto- which my voice does at E4 or F4 regardless of whether I want
it to or not. #2 My friend demonstrated this hook by switching from falsetto
into this ringing head tone for me but I can't seem to reproduce it! #3 My
falsetto is great but it's all my voice seems to want to do on top although
I suspect there's a lot more sound there if I can just figure out how to
access it! So here are my questions- #1 Is anyone else here familiar with
this dilemma (I need my high notes but can't figure out how to get them
out)? #2 Does anyone have any suggestions of vocal excercises that might
help me strengthen/find my top?
Thanks guys! I eagerly await your replies!
