Hi. It is time for musicians to "pitch" in.
This morning on the "Today" show I heard the statistic that more women are in sports now than ever. The old ratio given was 1 in 27 and now that ratio is 1 in 3. Comments about the positive effect of were given (i.e., fewer women smoking, drinking, etc.).
This is great, but it sounds so one-sided, as if the only way for young people (even though it was targeted towards young ladies, I'm sure the same positive effects are touted for young men) to stay out of trouble, etc. would be involvement in sports.
I have no problem with my kids (or anyone else's) playing sports as a detractor from other bad habits. However, music can have the same positive effects as sports and I would love to see some of our musical doctorates here go on the "Today" show and remind people that music has a positive influence on youngsters also.
I wonder what the statistics are for music...what would those ratios be for the number of young men and women involved in music and how the ratios have changed over the years, especially now that more women are involved in sports?
Okay, just thought I'd make a comment and see what you folks have to say.
