G'day from down under..

I need some context/translation/interpretation help with the above, or
rather with "If you love me, really love me" which is the translated
version. My query about the (to me) confusing context of this song is that
it's easily melodically interpreted as a love song, but lyrically "if you
love me, really love me, let it happen darling, I won't care"..seems to
work against that...also the French doesn't really help me too much, a)
because I'm a little rusty in that department, and b) because I'm a little
rusty in that department! and I'm getting something like "I don't think
that *that* is the important thing HERE!!" rather than "I don't
care"...mmm..

I suspect that the translation of the lyric to English has lost something
of the original sentiment...thanx in advance for any rapid light shed on
this..
