Chris,
The exercise I call "ru-pu-tu-ku" was apparently invented by a German. The idea is to forget about vowels (the "u" is a very short "uh") and concentrate on expelling air. I've heard various versions but the one I've noted goes:
ru-pu-tu-ku ru-pu-tu-ku sh-sh-sh-sh sh-sh-sh-sh ss-ss-ss-ss ss-ss-ss-ss ch-ch-ch-ch ch-ch-ch-ch (as in the German "ich") ft-ft-ft-ft ft-ft-ft-ft hweet hweet hweet hweet
For the "hweet", you simply expel as much air as you can, using as little vowel as possible. If your heads spins afterwards, you're doing it right!
My present teacher used to make me do this concentrating on expelling air from the lower abdomen, but has now turned her attentions to my diaphragm. She gets me to do a similar exercise pointing my joined fingers just under the centre of the ribcage.
Maybe one of the Vocalists professionals knows what this is called...
Thank you all for a fascinating list.
