Bronx isn't all that bad! I live in Brooklyn, and it's about the same as the Bronx in some areas (ok, i live near Coney Island). the only nice, safe, convenient places in Brooklyn are like Park Slopes and Brooklyn Heights, where all the people who can't afford to live in Manhattan live, lotsa artsy types =P But rent there is going up, cause of high demand. I don;t recommend Staten Island either, the ferry only runs every 1/2 hour! Commute would be HARD. Queens is rather nice, but it depends which part, and the nice parts only have houses (very suburbanish). I recommend Park Slopes or Brooklyn Heights, they are like 15 minutes from the city (the downtown part).

THAT was uncalled for. =P new york is really not that dangerous, I've lived here all my life. But its true that a car will be useless in the city (manhattan), and expensive since you'll have to keep it in one of those garage things. But if you're living out of the city, a car would be helpful, b/c city trsnsit s-u-c-k-s.
