You are right, you can get inexpensive opera tickets. At the LA Opera, the
cheapest seats are $27 and are three levels above the stage - very much
nosebleed section. Same at the Met. But if you want the best seats, you
will pay dearly for them. Compared to the best seats for most rock or pop
concerts, opera is way more expensive when you compare apples to apples in
terms of seating. For the LA Opera, the best seats are $146, for the Met
they are $220 then $140. For Pavarotti in LA, they are $300. Even compared
to the best seats in the house for a Broadway show, opera again proves more
expensive, given the best Broadway seats go for 75 maybe 80 bucks and opera
seats are almost twice that.
