Dear List,
I'd just like to comment something on this extract from a recent posting:

>They sent me a list of teachers in my area and I called a couple, >spoke to
>their references and chose a wonderfully spirited woman >right down the
>street from me. We met for what she had earlier >explained would be a kind
>of audition, but when I arrived she said >she could tell from my speaking
>voice that I was a singer and would >accept me.

The part that bugs me a little is "would accept me". Anyone who wants to
learn how to sing is welcome in my studio... in their first lesson they can
see if they like me as their teacher and I check out if the student is
someone I can work with (only from a personal, "chemistry" perspective), but
I'd never allow myself to judge in only one lesson whether a student's voice
is "good enough" for me to teach him/her! I'll teach anyone who wants to
learn. All levels.

What do you think about auditioning students? In my opinion a student should
audition his/her teacher, not the other way around.

Best!
