| From: Isabelle Bracamonte Subject: singer-friendly diets To: vocalist Send reply to: VOCALIST <vocalist>
Hi, gang. It's actually me (Isabelle) and not my immensely talented friend Mary who was wondering about various teachers in New York... I'm still forwarding her all the replies, which she GREATLY appreciates.
But here's my topic: Some opera singers (I'm trying not to generalize!) need to lose weight. I myself have fallen into the trap of feeling like I really NEED the extra "oomph" buffer of having a layer of bulk to lean against in my support. However, I may have gone too far. I'd like to look like a Mimi again. I already exercise every morning (20 min. on a bike), and it's just not doing the job.
Did anyone read the article in Vogue about Denyce Graves and how she is a buff diva? It had a bit about how Vaness lost a bunch of weight without hurting her vocal technique, although she said she had to relearn some support concepts after she was thin.
Is there a diet that is more singer-friendly than others? I am particularly interested in this new low-carbohydrate ketogenic diet, which -- if you get past the hype and read the research studies on it -- sounds like an efective way to lose fat but not muscle. Does anyone have any experience with it? Or others?
For those non-bulky readers: are you fit and trim? How do you do it?
Since this can be a sensitive subject, if you're shy about it, you can reply to me privately and, if you indicate, I will take off your name etc. and post only your message text back to the list.
