I don't know if technically you can call it an art song. I think we get by with using it as art songs in auditions such as NATS is because those operas are rarely if ever performed. A nice 20th Century piece to look at that is in Italian is called "Fiocca la neve" I believe. I'm trying to remember the collection it is found in.....World's Favorite 20th Century Art Songs or something like that. I have had a couple of students audition at colleges with this piece and voice faculty go apes over it. It is not well known and is a very nice piece.
