Feeling nervous shows that what you are about to do has importance. Every performer gets nervous - sometimes one thinks that one is the only one to feel something. What helps is to be well prepared, so that what you are singing has become part of you. What I have learned is that it is important to really concentrate while giving a recital or performance, otherwise I become aware of myself in the situation.
Another point, famous singers are heard when they have attained a level a mastery of vocal technique. It is forgotten that they had to work on technique, then to preserve and refine it over time. It takes many years to become proficient so that one's technique is "invisible" and the singer can use his/her instrument musically, poetically, drammatically. We all have to learn to be patient, which runs counter to the spirit of the modern world, where everything has to be now. How much better tasting something slow roasted than a fast food product.
Further, if you are like me, the anticipation of something is often worse than the event itself. If you can't sing to another person then sing to a tree, or animal. When you go for a walk why not do some vocalising, you'll get used to people looking at you and probably get some compliments. Why not ask your fiance to hold your hand when you sing to him, then he won't be the audience out there. Instead of arranging a specific time to sing to him, just do it spontaneously - that should help you to think that it isn't a "performance". Take things slowly and progress step by step.
Singing has helped me to overcome clinical depression, because it restored my sense of self-worth. I would suggest that you did tell your teacher about your nervousness and performance anxiety, as a good teacher is like a good friend. If the teacher is any good then they will help you to become the singer only you can be. The key to your talent is within you, you have to open the door to it, otherwise you will always live in regret.
If you suffer from stress then go to a good masseur/masseuse, plus there are Bach Flower Remedies - Rescue remedy is good.
I have some way to progress before I am able to sing as I know I have the potential to, but I know that when I go to the opera or listen to a concert that I have to belong to that world however long it will take me.
Anything of true value in life is hard in the accomplishing of it. One day you will look back and be glad that you persevered.
With best wishes for the New Year and for your future, Stewart, basso profondo
